Day 49 – Cruise by Pio XI (Bruggen) Glacier, Chile Bridge, February 21, 2025March 9, 2025 At 7 this morning we awoke to find ourselves at The Bruggen Glacier (also known as the Pio XI Glacier). Unfortunately, because there was quite a lot of ice in the water, the ship had to maintain a safe distance, meaning the glacier was too far away to see properly. The rest of the morning was spent cruising the Chilean fjords before re-entering the pretty rough seas of the Pacific at around 1 pm, where we remained for the rest of the day. It is fair to say that we are both feeling a bit flat today. The captain cancelling our stop at Punta Arenas has meant five sea days in a row, often in very rough conditions, and with relentlessly cold, overcast and dreary weather. And as dramatic and stunning as the Chilean fjords are, after five days of nothing else one is definitely ready for a change of scenery. At this point in our voyage we find that the endless carefree days around the pool in the hot sun, interspersed with vibrant and exciting ports of call all seem but a distant memory. Our shorts and summer dresses are all back in the cupboards and our jumpers are getting plenty of use. We are longing to return to warmer climes as much as we are longing for our next port day which, fingers crossed, is tomorrow. There are two happy events to report however. Firstly Bridge shared the lift with Clare Balding this evening and had a lovely, albeit brief, chat with her, and secondly the washing machines were all free, meaning we caught up on all our laundry!! 🧺 ☺️ Daily Posts
