Day 39 – Buenos Aires, Argentina Bridge, February 11, 2025February 13, 2025 Today there was a significant change in the weather, yesterday being a blazing hot 37 degrees and today a rainy 24 degrees. We therefore decided to check out the Museo Nacional de Bella Artes. This pleasant museum has some excellent works by some of the biggest hitters, namely Degas, Manet, Gauguin and Modigliani, and even a Picasso and a Van Gogh, as well as some very interesting and impressive South American artists. After this we took a cab to San Telmo market which was a bit underwhelming so we jumped in another cab and headed back to the ship for some lunch and a rest. Later we took the courtesy bus to Plaza San Martin for a couple of hours’ shopping before getting back to the ship at about 7, feeling extremely weary and with very sore feet, having walked 6.5 miles today. 🥱 🦶 On a side note, berthed next to Queen Victoria the whole time we’ve been in Buenos Aires has been the freight ship Maersk ‘La Paz’, and we have been watching in some awe the non-stop loading operation involving several super-cranes working flat out. We found ourselves staring in amazement at the sheer volume of containers piling up on the ship and a quick bit of research informed us that the La Paz takes 18,000 containers fully loaded, stacked 21 high (how do they not topple over in high seas?) and that she is 300m long, compared with Queen Victoria which is slightly shorter at 294m.
